The Battle of Hogwarts
Ten years ago to this day, brave witches, wizards, and creatures of all kinds fought for all that was good in the Wizarding World. Ten years ago to this day, that same force overcame the clutches of fear, anger, and terror to deliver the rest of us the world we have today. Ten years ago to this day, the Battle of Hogwarts was fought.
The Battle of Hogwarts took place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Battle was a climactic crescendo in the harmonious duet of destiny between “The Chosen One” or “Boy Who Lived,” Harry Potter, and “He Who Must Not Be Named” himself, Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter had spent the year prior to the Battle seeking out Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes, which he had created in an attempt to overcome death itself and become immortal. Mr. Potter’s quest to end Lord Voldemort’s path to immortality, and with it, his reign and control in the Ministry of Magic and pure-blood elitism, brought Potter, along with his close friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, to the Hogwarts campus in search of one of the last Horcruxes. The Order of the Phoenix (an anti-Voldemort, equal rights fighting force), Dumbledore’s Army (comprised of mostly of-age Hogwarts students seeking to learn to defend themselves and make a difference), Hogwarts staff and faculty, residents of Hogsmeade, and a variety of different magical creatures all rushed to Potter’s side as he came to the Hogwarts campus. Likewise, Voldemort himself brought the army of his Death Eaters, Inferi, Giants, and Snatchers with him to overthrow the school in an effort to get to Harry Potter and preserve his immortality.
Each side fought ferociously; there were heavy losses. When Mr. Potter and Lord Voldemort finally clashed directly Potter, along with the help of his allies, had already dispatched of all of the Horcruxes that binded Lord Voldemort to the living realm. In the end, Potter, 17, defeated Lord Voldemort and ended his reign of tyranny in the Wizarding World this very day, ten years ago.
Since then, the Wizarding World has calmed the storm that was Lord Voldemort’s reign. He sought to achieve immortality through the assertion of himself atop the Wizarding World and beyond. Voldemort pitted different races, such as Giants, against the rest of the population and made them antagonists towards most of the population which like many other races as well, had set diplomacy and communication between themselves and humanity at least a decade. Only now are we seeing attempted offerings of peace between many segregated populations such as Giants, Goblins, and Werewolves. Since Voldemort’s fall there has been a decrease in hate crimes, discriminatory action, and manipulation both inside the Ministry of Magic and in the world. The past ten years have brought peace and an opportunity to rebuild as Voldemort’s supporters have no chance to rally and revolt like they did under him. They’ve slowly been arrested and sent to Azkaban by the Aurors in the Ministry. These instances are few and far between as the Department of Magical Law Enforcement has been very vigilant in their pursuit.
With Lord Voldemort gone, the Wizarding World has developed new opportunities for many to start anew. Many were coerced into helping his malevolent efforts, others just scarred by his impact on them and those around them. Whatever it may be, Harry Potter and everyone else who fought against the forces of evil have given everyone the chance to make a fresh start in how we all see the world. The Ministry, and in extension, the Wizarding World is seeing with more clarity that it ever has before. This is something to celebrate. Remember those who gave their lives and the sacrifices others made so that we have the opportunity for growth still in a new age. Remember the Battle of Hogwarts.
