Remembering the Fallen
"But I don’t want to remember the way Dobby died, because he was so much more than a sacrifice of life. Today, I want to remember my dear friend Dobby, who will always remain a free elf." - Harry Potter
"Nowadays, I walk around the store and think of Freddie. With every wizard that leaves happy, I know the smile grows bigger on his face knowing that our dream of happiness is coming true." - George Weasley

He Who Must Be Named
Learning from Our Past: Ministry of Magic Reformed
As we celebrate our triumph over Lord Voldemort, our victory during the Second Wizarding War and commemorate those who have sacrificed themselves so that we can be here today, we must reflect. We must reflect and we must remember. Only then can we learn from our mistakes and move forwards.
The Ministry of Magic has made excellent headway in the last ten years to reform their practices, restructure their government and allow the wizarding community to feel safe again. This has been all made possible through the leadership of Kingsley Shacklebolt, who took the helm of Minister for Magic back in 1998, just after the events of the Battle of Hogwarts. Minister Shacklebolt has transformed the dynamics of the Ministry with his vision for a brighter future. His revitalisation included replenishing the Auror Office – headed by none other than Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley, to capture the remaining Death Eaters at large. He fought to demolish the corruption and rid the Ministry of prejudice. His efforts were matched by those of Hermione Granger, who first worked in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and now works at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Ms. Granger has worked tirelessly to progress the rights of non-humans such as house elves and goblins and eliminate any “pro-pureblood” laws[1].
A government corrupt with bribery and pervasively discriminatory, the Ministry was a categorically dark place. A Ministry that allowed for Death Eaters to both directly and indirectly control government decisions. A Ministry who would one year ignore under-aged magic and the next try that same person for it in a criminal court with the Wizengamot. A Ministry who wanted to lie and give the public false hope when things were beyond dire behind the scenes. A Ministry that housed an administration such as the Muggle-Born Registration Commission to prosecute muggle-borns for allegedly stealing magic. A Ministry who stepped aside and let Lord Voldemort rise to power again. A Ministry who let the fate of the wizarding world rest on the shoulders of a 17-year-old boy and his group of friends (who were easily the most competent wizards and witches for the job). We mustn’t forget that these things happened, that these events were real. We must recognize these ugly facts to ensure that we do not revert to these old ways.
The new Ministry of Magic has been formed on the foundation of the valuable lessons learned from the events that took place more than ten years ago. The appointment of Kingsley Shacklebolt has brought the magical community into a new era. An era of hope, happiness and greater equality. The Ministry of Magic has changed for the better. The wizarding community can rest easy knowing we are now united as one under the great leadership of Kingsley Shacklebolt. The wizarding community can rest easy knowing that all is well.
