In Memory of Freddie
I must say truthfully… these sugar quills taste just as good as the last time I tried to write something like this. I’m sure that would have been some sort of school assignment I didn’t pass. I have never been much of a writer, and everyone knew that in my years at Hogwarts. I got by through the exchange of chocolate bonbons and by making sure that I repaid the friends doing my assignments by ensuring that several of our self-propelling custard pies hit their intended targets. However, it is upon the 10th anniversary of the battle at Hogwarts that I have decided that I would like to write a little piece for Fred. These days, I lean over the railing at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, watching new students burst into the shop as soon as the doors open in the morning. It is always the same look of astonishment and excitement on their faces that I see as they run in. Gazing at these young faces brings flashbacks of myself and my friends just a decade ago. Fred and I were once just as excited as these kids to show off the newest flavour of ton -tongue toffee to our friends, or test out new puking pastilles on our classmates. We laughed just as hard as these kids did when we discovered we could set off exploding firecrackers that followed our teachers and nipped at their arses.
Nowadays, I walk around the store and think of Freddie. With every wizard that leaves happy, I know the smile grows bigger on his face knowing that our dream of happiness is coming true. I see only Joy. Joy on muggle-born wizard’s faces as they laugh at muggle magic bobbles. The joy on the faces of young wizards as they see the faces of my friends on chocolate frog cards. This was the Hogwarts that Fred and I wanted to bring back. This was the Hogwarts that we tried to create in our time there. With every invention, I think of the good old days when we whooped in laughter through Hogwarts’s halls. I smile today, knowing that Freddie is smiling down at the castle… itching to join them.
